Why is the race card once again being played in a prominent black court case?

I am so sick of this. Michael Vick is evil and guilty. Has nothing to do with his blackness. If this was a white man the same thing would have happened to him regarding suspension from football and charges filed. Why is the race card once again being played in a prominent black court case?
For the same reason a dog licks himself,.....Because he can!Why is the race card once again being played in a prominent black court case?
Because playing the race card is just a typical tactic that is used over in over to try to win cases. It won't work in this case though.

You're right about Vick being evil and guilty. He should go to prison for a long time and never be allowed to play football again.
I think that race shouldn't be able to be use in the case cause in my eye's their wasnt an issue with race when he was being accused now he admits guilt and his race/culture shouldn't be able to excuse he choices to put these defenseless animals in harmful/deadly situation is its sick. Personally I haven't heard that his race is an issue but that shouldn't even be an argument in this case.
Why don't you tell me?
This is actually a very interesting case, not so much from a legal perspective as a cultural one. I think it might be interesting to examine this both from a justice and double-standard perspective.

Legally, I think it is open and shut, and the gentleman will be doing time. So he’ll probably do time in a federal minimum security prison which is appropriate for his criminal record. But what if instead he had been allowed to continue playing football with the stipulation that for the next few years his salary go to the humane society, and that he concurrently be asked to work in an animal shelter during the off season. Face it, the man is not going to learn a lesson in either case, but imagine the good that could be done for animals if you harnessed his earning power for a season or two. That’s not just justice, but poetic justice.

Now let’s take a look at the double standards that a case like this raises.

If the race card is being played, it’s because it is there to be played. The interesting thing about the OJ case, which is the unspoken king of race card cases, is that African Americans did perceive he was innocent. The conditions that led to this were years of mainstream America using the criminal justice system against them. Whether it is racial profiling, Driving While Black, inequitable sentencing between powdered and crack cocaine, disproportionate death sentences, lynchings where no one was arrested, etc, African Americans have endured a legacy of unfair treatment that leads them to distrust the system. While I believe that much has been addressed in these areas, building the kind of trust that enables all Americans to look at cases like Vicks through the same lens will require time, and in the interim, we are left with that legacy. That is not an excuse; that is history.

The second double standard which in some ways is the most hilarious is that professional football is just dog fighting cleaned up a little. Football is excruciatingly painful, and for many of its participants, crippling. In the long run the abuse these people endure will shave years off there lives. Sure the owners aren’t allowed to take non performers around back and plug them, but in some cases that may be merciful if you considered the lives and health squandered by players only to be let go early in their careers. So when we pony up cash for tickets, watch televised sports or buy athlete endorsed products, we are supporting a system that is only marginally better than dog fighting.

Finally, this year we’ll eat over 8,500,000,000 chickens, 34,000,000 cows and 100,000,000 pigs. So Michael Vick takes a dog out back and wastes it and we’re up in arms? Don’t get me wrong, because I think PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals, and I enjoy my exalted position at the top of the food chain, but in never hurts to take a step back and look at the big picture. Pigs are arguably smarter than dogs, and every month is pig holocaust month in the US.

So we should take this as an opportunity not just to cast stones at Mr. Vick and others, but to look at our own behaviors an ask ‘What can we all do better?”
My guess is that, there are many organizations and other prominent African American athletes realize that playing in the NFL is all the animal abusing loser has going for him. When he loses that he will come out of prison unemployable and it will be the fault of the malicious White judicial system.

I guess if they keep saying it's about race long enough someone is bound to believe them.
